eye care beneficiaries
In 2020, 1.1 billion people lived with vision loss because of a lack of access to basic eye care services. As a matter of fact, 90% of all vision loss is either preventable or treatable. At the same time, according to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), 90% of the visually impaired people reside in low- and middle-income countries, as the access to high-quality eye care services – such as screenings, eyeglasses, treatments, eye surgeries, but also purchase of equipment and training of health professionals - is limited in those countries. Without significant investment, vision loss is expected to affect 4.8 billion people by 2050, which amounts to half the global population. Since 2006, the L’Occitane en Provence Fund has been a member of the IAPB which enables us to benefit from a network of experts and involved actors as well as international recommendations and examples of good practices.
For more than 20 years, Maison L’Occitane en Provence has been committed to the fight against avoidable blindness. Therefore, the Maison’s endowment Fund and its subsidiaries have been assisting NGOs in their projects to provide eye care and reinforce healthcare systems around the world. They are supporting screenings, treatments and surgeries but are also contributing to the purchase of medical equipment as well as the formation of healthcare professionals.
