This project is supported by L'Occitane en Provence Ireland.
Context
Globally, the number of people in need of eye care is spiralling. Unless eye health services improve, the number of people who are blind could triple to 115 million by 2050. Nigeria is the most populated nation in Africa, but more than half of its population live below the income poverty line. Also, the primary sources of employment are farming, fishing, and small-scale trading which does not help to reduce inequalities in access to health services.
Supported Project
In 2025-2026, L'Occitane en Provence Ireland supports a Sightsavers' project entitled "SeeClear Nigeria Inclusive Eye Health", which is the combination of two projects that have already been running for several years. The merger of these programmes aims to consolidate implementation strategies to sustain their positive impact on the territory. The overall goal of the programme is to improve equitable access to sustainable quality eye health services that are inclusive of all women, men, boys and girls, with and without disabilities, and or belonging to other marginalised groups in the society.
