This project is supported by the Brazilian subsidiary of L'OCCITANE en Provence.

Context

In Brazil, according to data from Abióptica, only 15% of municipalities have an ophthalmologist. This very low figure implies a severe lack of access to eye care for the Brazilian population, especially for indigenous populations living isolated from large urban centers, for whom any intervention is far too expensive. This lack of eye care has a direct impact on the population and its access to education: more than 20% of school drop-outs are related to untreated eye problems in students.

Supported Project

In this context, L'OCCITANE Brazil supports the project "A World Everyone Can See" of the Associação de Apoio Renovatio, in 2022-2023.

The project consists of identifying eye defects, providing eye care and donating eyeglasses to vulnerable populations in Brazil. Thus, eye examinations will be delivered and 1,000 eyeglasses will be distributed on prescription in Municipalities with low human development index and in indigenous villages throughout Brazil.

The goal of this project is to facilitate the follow-up of the people most in need, but also to ensure the continuity of the project by training the medical staff on site, to ensure sustainable improvement in the eye health of the target population.
