The Asia Prevention of Blindness Association is a nonprofit organization that helps people who suffer from eye diseases caused by poverty in Southeast Asia. This association was established in 2003 by a group of volunteers with the help of Dr. Tadashi Hattori, a graduate of the Department of Ophthalmology at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, who volunteered in the field by throwing his personal fortune in ophthalmological treatment and technical advice.

On June 21, 2005, the Society was officially recognized by Kyoto Prefecture as the Asian Association for the Prevention of Blindness and further expanded its activities. Today, this activity is supported by donations.
