Affiliated Project - This project is supported by the Japan subsidiary of L'OCCITANE en Provence.

Context

The current poverty rate in Vietnam is about 6%, equivalent to 6 million people, mainly living in rural areas. Most of them only go to see the doctor when they are in dire situation because with their ability, they cannot even pay their usual living expenses. Beside, medical environment in Vietnam is far behind, compared to Japan. In the rural areas, both eye specialists and treatment facilities were extremely limited.

Supported Project

In 2023-2024, L'OCCITANE Japan is supporting Asia Prevention of Blindness Association (APBA) and its project aiming to help poor patients who live in rural areas and can not afford the treatment fees to get the light back for their eyes. Every year, APBA builds the plan to go to 6-7 provinces around Vietnam to perform free cataract surgeries and in-depth examination. In addition,  APBA helps to train local ophthalmologists and medical staffs to improve their skills and call for financial support to purchase new specialized equipment to supplement the facilities.
