This project is supported by L'OCCITANE en Provence's Manufactures.
Context
The fruit heritage and its associated know-how are part of the rural culture of the Parc du Verdon's territory: they constitue a richness that the Parc has highlighted since its creation through initiatives such as ethnological studies, classes to teach the inhabitants or the production of fruit juices. The project to conserve the local biodiversity is thus complementary to this project of valorisation. Since its beginning, the Parc has identified numerous fruits varieties both typical of the territory and adapted to the various micro-climates of the area. This multiplicity of old fruit is a sign of an important local heritage and a true domestic biodiversity.
Supported Project
In 2024-2025, L'OCCITANE en Provence's Manufactures funded a Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon's project as part of the Parc's global strategy to preserve the local fruit biodiversity. It strives to create a network of orchads covering the Parc's towns and containing old varieties of apples, pears and plums. This project also seeks to act for the transmission of the knowledge inherent to the diversified arboriculture of the agroforestry type. The project's actions are structured around 5 axes: improving the knowledge of the Parc's fruit heritage, diffusing the know-how and the skills, conserving-multiplying-diffusing the local domestic biodiversity, accompanying the economic valorisation of the fruit productions, and assisting the practices of agricultural diversification.
