Context
The global projections in terms of visual health are alarming: indeed, by 2050, 50% of the world's population will be short-sighted. In 2016 in France, 20% of children were already short-sighted. In 25% of cases, short-sightedness leads to poor vision or blindness after the age of 60. And yet, some people still do not have access to eye care. As 80% of learning is dependent on sight, taking action to protect pupils' sight is also an issue of health equity and equal opportunities.
Supported Project
In 2024-2025, L'OCCITANE France supported Helen Keller Europe in its project "PlanVue" acting for students' eye health. "PlanVue" is a program deployed directly in schools, and especially in priority education aeras. It aims to track, cure and raise awareness of the students' visual impairments. By implementing activities of prevention, PlanVue seeks to educate both students and teachers while working with the families to help them become active in the follow-up of their children's eye health. Screening programs are also carried out in all the partnered institutions, with the support of School Medecine: PlanVue offers the ophthalmological consultations and the eyewear for families in need of guidance. Finally, a follow-up is established to bring support to the families and deliver key information.
