This project is supported by L'OCCITANE China.
Context
In China, there is significant demand for quality eye care services throughout the country, especially among populations residing in rural areas who encounter economic and logistical challenges when accessing care. However, a significant obstacle to blindness prevention in China is the shortage of qualified eye care personnel in the rural areas where their services are most needed.
Supported Project
In 2024-2025, L'OCCITANE China is funding an Orbis project aiming at enhancing pediatric and adult eye care services in underprivileged rural areas in 7 counties of China by training county-level eye health professionals and enhancing screening and referral systems. Local hospitals conduct screenings to improve access to quality eye health services. Additionally, the project offers surgical subsidization support to vulnerable rural populations affected by conditions such as cataracts and emerging diseases like diabetic retinopathy, thereby restoring their sight.
