This project is supported by L'OCCITANE's Spanish subsidiary in Provence.
Context
The project is being developed in a rural area in Madrid, Villarejo de Salvanés, which belongs to the region of Las Vegas, a predominantly rural area of olive groves and vegetable gardens in the area. This area is very rich in biodiversity but is suffering from the effects of large cultive areas or climate change.
Supported Project
In 2024-2025, for the second year running, L'OCCITANE's Spanish subsidiary in Provence is supporting Ecoherencia in its project to restore the balance of ecosystems in traditionally agricultural areas, essential for recovering the associated ecosystem services, adapting to the climate emergency, recovering biodiversity loss and halting the proliferation of zoonoses.
The project aims to design and implement agroecological infrastructures on two production farms in the Community of Madrid (Spain), with the aim of promoting the biodiversity of plant species and, consequently, that of insect species, birds and other animal species. In all, the aim is to plant 300 native trees and shrubs in perimeter hedges or stands on two farms. These trees and shrubs, which attract pollinators and flower at different times of the year, will be planted in the Community of Madrid, along with various fruiting bodies, to also provide shelter and food for birds. Protectors and stakes will be placed to protect the seedlings and increase their survival, and tree pits will be made over each of the plants. A planting irrigation will be carried out on the day of planting, and the seedlings will also receive three additional irrigations over the course of the summer.
At the same time, ecological corridors will be created to promote the recovery of natural elements and the habitat of various species of flora and fauna.
