Context

Langley Vale is located in Surrey, England. It is part of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) meaning that it is an area with significant scenic quality. The soils at Langley Vale are home to a unique and internationally important flora. The flowers are so rare that they require high maintenance to manage and care for. On the other hand, the growing urbanisation in Britain highlights the need for green spaces for public health and well-being. As such, Langley Vale Wood provides recreational opportunities for nearby communities and contributes to local tourism. The Woodland Trust's project contributes to global reforestation efforts and biodiversity preservation.

Supported Project

In 2024-2025, L'OCCITANE en Provence UK funded a Woodland Trust's project located in Langley Vale. The mixed habitats of Langley Vale are a haven for local wildlife: 5 species of bat and 59 species of bird have been recorded. These ground-nesting birds benefit from around 85 ha of Langley Vale being managed for rare arable plants. Langley Vale's meadows need to be carefully handled by trained skilled volunteers, site manager and specialist contractors: tilling, rolling and ploughing are performed annually to allow the magnificent flora to thrive and create beautiful views. Therefore the project in Langley consists in the protection of the meadows with rare species and international importance and in the preservation of 2 groves in perpetuity.
