Context
Healthy societies, resilient economies and thriving businesses rely on nature. But nature is at a tipping point and the natural resources that power businesses are under massive strain. Businesses need to urgently transition from being part of the problem (causing nature’s degradation), to being part of the solution (protecting, restoring and sustainably using natural resources).
We need systems transformation – which means changing the very foundation of our economic, financial, regulatory and accounting systems to embed the true value of nature and people in decision-making, disclosure and performance.
The Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), adopted by 196 governments in December 2022 at UN CBD Biodiversity COP15 is the plan of action that business and finance must help achieve. After having successfully influenced this historic agreement, Business for Nature coalition is now focused on contributing to its ambitious implementation towards 2030.
Supported Project
Since 2025, the L'Occitane en Provence Foundation is supporting Business for Nature in its advocacy project aiming at contributing to the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework. It seeks to drive credible business action and policy ambition to achieve a nature-positive economy for all by 2030.
The projects focuses on strenghtening business engagement on nature in Africa, Asia and Latin America by building upon existing efforts through partners based in these regions, providing engagement opportunities for the business community, and identifying specific countries to focus and learn from.
To do so, several activities are carried out:
- developping a regionnaly focused business advocacy and action on nature which adapts to the specific cultres and conctext while connecting to individuals and partners on site, in order to understand and prioritize where the most strategic engagement could be.
- amplifying the leading business voice advocating for greater policy ambition to ensure that the Global South priorities - inlcuding Asia, Africa and Latin America - are fully recognised and integrated in Business for Nature's global advocacy work.
- furthering business action to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030 by converging efforts and collaborating with others to streamline, communicate and amplify existing frameworks.
