Context

Women are the main participants in traditional handicraft industries, most of whom live in remote areas. They possess traditional exquisite handicraft skills, but generally lack international vision and commercial transformation ability. At the same time, many grassroots women's federations have shown that handicrafts are an important leveler for women to engage in flexible employment at home. Therefore they need high-quality empowerment training to lead more rural female artisans to go out and connect with the market, enhance the value of non-heritage products, and increase women's income. By empowering women through non-heritage public welfare projects, we can effectively promote women's income growth, improve their family status, and promote sustainable development.

Supported Project

In 2024-2025, L'OCCITANE China supported the project "Hancrafting with Heart" led by the China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) aiming at empowering craftswomen. It seeks to provide paper-cut and ceramic artisans with training in commercial transformation of intangible heritage skills to establish an entrepreneurial spirit and upgrade their skills. By organizing art exhibitions and cultural activities, it also enhances the practical value of intangible heritage skills to foster female innovation and sustainable development. Work exchange meetings, brand cooperation and charitable publicity are also organised to extend the reach of those women's projects.
