Context
The “Intangible Cultural Heritage” encompasses various traditional cultural expressions that are transmitted from generation to generation. In China, bamboo weaving is a vital heritage, due to its vast territory and abundant resources of this species. In the face of urbanisation and changing consumption patterns, this knowledge is being declined and has direct repercussions on rural women who depend on it for their income.
Supported Project
In 2025–2026, L’Occitane en Provence China supports China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) aiming at empowering craftswomen. The programme aims to support craftswomen in developing a more contemporary business model for bamboo weaving and also to create synergies between the rural world and commercial actors located mainly in urban areas. The project aims to promote traditional skills and preserve them for the future. To raise public understanding, CWDF has organised exhibitions, hands-on public experiences, and awareness campaigns. In parallel, knowledge-exchange forums have been set up to bring craftswomen together and create strong communities.
