Context
In 2024, 1.6 million women and 1.8 million children in England experienced domestic abuse. As such, in a country where violence against women and girls is a national emergency, Women’s Aid is a national charity working to end this global issue. For 50 years, it has operated in England to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse.
In recent years, domestic abuse has shifted to the forefront of the political agenda. However, there is often a disconnect between those with the power to change policy, and those whose lives are most affected by these decisions.
Project Supported
In 2024-2025, L'OCCITANE UK is funding Women's Aid UK in its efforts to develop and expand their Experts by Experience network. This network provides an opportunity for survivors to be upskilled and feel more confident in using their lived experience to improve the response to domestic abuse. It provides a network of peer support for survivors engaging with policy and campaigning work, and gives them access to workshops and wellbeing sessions. Policy improvements driven by survivor input will benefit future survivors of domestic abuse by improving the support available to them.
