Context
1.6 million women in England experienced domestic abuse and at least one woman is killed by a partner or ex partner every week. In a country where violence against women and girls remains a national emergency, Women’s Aid stands as a leading voice for change. For over 50 years, this national charity has been at the heart of efforts to end domestic abuse—shaping policy, transforming practice, and raising public awareness of this global issue.
As domestic abuse has moved higher on the political agenda in recent years, Women’s Aid has played a vital role in bridging the gap between decision-makers and the lived experiences of survivors. Through its work, the voices of women and children are not only heard but placed at the centre of meaningful change
Project Supported
In 2024–2025, L’OCCITANE UK supports Women’s Aid UK by funding the development and expansion of the Experts by Experience network. This initiative empowers survivors by providing opportunities to build skills and confidence in using their lived experience to influence and improve the national response to domestic abuse.
The network offers peer support for survivors involved in policy and campaigning work, alongside access to tailored workshops and wellbeing sessions. By placing survivor voices at the heart of change, the network helps drive policy improvements that will positively impact the lives of future survivors by ensuring more effective and compassionate support.
