This project is supported by L'OCCITANE Japan.
Context
In Japan, and particularly in the Tohoku region, there is still a severe gender gap with a persistent culture of male dominance and female subservience. On the other hand, the global context of gender equality, as emphasized by the United Nations and various international organizations, underscores the importance of empowering women and promoting gender equality for a sustainable development.
Supported Project
In 2023-2024, L'OCCITANE Japan is funding a Women's Eye project fostering future female leaders who will overcome local conventions and change society. By providing a space for women to gather, build networks and challenge existing resistence to women's activities, this program seeks to empower women across the Tohoku region and become a catalyst for societal transformation. It helps them to acquire new skills, knowlegde and networks to further positive change in their communities. By eliminating the barriers based on traditions and local customs as well as gender expectations, and by creating vertical and horizontal connections, the program creates a lasting ripple effect and is committed to cultivating a new generation of adaptable change agents who will continue to transform society.
