Nature is L’OCCITANE’s main inspiration. Founded in 1976 in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region, L’OCCITANE has always been committed to protecting the natural heritage of Provence and the Mediterranean.
In line with the brand's values and origins, the L’OCCITANE Foundation supports local initiatives that aim to promote Provence’s land, traditions and know-how, share knowledge about natural plant heritage, and protect threatened varieties and ecosystems.
The Foundation’s commitment does not stop at preserving the Provencal flora, but also to prevent and raise awareness more broadly about threats to ecosystems. As such, the Foundation supports the French committee of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature which establishes the red list of Mediterranean ecosystems. Since 2015, 31 Mediterranean ecosystems have been identified and assessed. This list is a knowledge tool that informs policy makers, environmental stakeholders and the general public. It is used to build conservation strategies, identify priorities for action and evolve regulations on nature management and conservation.
In 2019, the L’OCCITANE Foundation took its commitment to biodiversity internationally and new projects are being agreed.
