90% of people with visual impairment in the world live in developing countries. In these regions, uncorrected refractive errors are the main cause of impairment, while cataract represents the majority of cases of blindness. Yet cataract surgery and the correction of refractive errors are among the most cost-effective medical interventions.

In Burkina Faso, visual impairment is a public health issue, particularly in the central-western region of the country where 8% of people aged 50 or more are affected by blindness and 17% are living with low vision.

They lead to a decrease in the individual's capacities, with negative consequence for socio-economic development. They are also sources of stigmatization.

To fight avoidable blindness, L'OCCITANE and its Foundation have been committed since 2006 in Burkina Faso. In 2017, more than 250,000 Burkinabè received quality eye care thanks to the financial support of L'OCCITANE in partnership with the following NGOs:
