Context

In August 2022, a forest fire spread in the forest massif located between the communes of Villeneuve and Niozelles, in the Alpes de Haute Provence, damaging a total of 236 hectares. This fire had a devastating impact on the vegetation, composed mainly of pines and oaks, but also more widely on the entire ecosystem of this region.

Supported project

In this emergency context, the ONF and its Agir pour la Forêt endowment fund, supported by the L'OCCITANE Foundation in 2022-2023, have launched, with the help of the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur Region and local partners, a forest restoration program around the communes of Villeneuve and Niozelles, in the Alpes de Haute-Provence.

The emergency fund set up aims to allow post-fire studies to be carried out and emergency work to be started while waiting for the natural regeneration of the forest and, if necessary, the reforestation of degraded areas.
