Context

United Kingdom in in the midst of both climate and biodiversity crises, materialized by the lost of  half of its biodiversity since the industrial revolution. Wild woodlands play a vital role in preserving biodiversity, providing habitat for native wildlife and woodland flora.  Yet the UK is one of the least forested countries in Europe, with only 13% of its total land area covered by forest. While existing forests act as a carbon sink and sequester more CO2 than newly planted forests, only 7% of UK native woodland is deemed in good ecological condition. The need to protect this existing habitat is crucial to the UK's biodiversity and wider climate.

Supported Project

In 2022- 2023, L'OCCITANE UK supports the Woodland Trust project, which goal is to bring back the natural balance of UK woodlands and especially the eco-system at Little Doward Wood.

This restoration project aims to remove conifers and restore ancient woodland and wood pasture, reintroducing animals to gradually rebalance the eco-system and help re-established declining species into the landscape. This is then focused on improving native woodland biodiversity and people's understanding and enjoyment of woodland.
