Context
For over 20 years, Sport dans la Ville has enabled more than 3,000 young people to go on vacation. These vacations are particularly impactful for young people, as they allow for encounters that help them grow and change their life trajectories. Today, more than 45% of French people never go on vacation, and this is unfortunately the case for most of the young people of Sport dans la Ville. Coming from isolated territories where social and economic deficiencies are multiple, the young people of Sport dans la Ville face many difficulties that penalize their social integration (family, mobility, housing, lack of training, etc.). One of the pillars of the association is to allow young people to get out of their daily environment and discover the world, to encourage open-mindedness, respect and curiosity.
Supported Project
In 2021-2022, the L'OCCITANE Foundation supported the NGO Sport dans la Ville in the creation of a 1,000 m2 permaculture vegetable garden and the planting of a 2,000 m2 food forest at the heart of its youth vacation and training center in Poët-Laval (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France).
The vegetable garden has an educational vocation above all but the production will be used in the canteen of the Center. The preparation of the land will be done in the fall of 2021 so that the beds will be ready to be planted in the spring of 2022 and produce during the summer, thus allowing the organization of daily workshops for the young people of the Center.
The food forest will bring continuity to the vegetable garden. It will serve as an ecological corridor between the forest below and the vegetable garden. In addition to its important productivity, it will provide a quiet and aesthetic space for strolling. This model imitates the natural forest, it has a strong educational aspect.
