Context

In 2015, Burkina Faso ranked 185th out of 188 on the HDI, and 44% of the population lives on less than $1.25 a day. More than 1,400,000 people (8.8% of the population) are visually impaired, of whom more than 230,000 are reportedly blind. The Bobo-Dioulasso region has many areas with little or no development, often neglected outlying neighbourhoods with poor water supply and often poorly integrated into public services, where fragile populations are concentrated.

Supported project

The Foundation and the international headquarters of L'OCCITANE support the Order of Malta and its eye screening project in the uninhabited areas of Bobo-Dioulasso. In the event of cataract detection, people in need will be able to undergo surgery and will benefit from complete and quality medical care at a social price. The same applies to refraction errors. In order to allow the greatest number of people to benefit from the project, quality glasses adapted to their needs will be distributed to those who have been screened.
