Context

The Ladakh and Khumbu regions bordering the Himalayas are underserved and difficult to access. Mostly rural, these precarious regions have been little affected by modernity and do not allow easy access to medical care, which explains, among other things, the high prevalence of eye diseases.

Supported project

In 2018-2019, L'OCCITANE Singapore and the Foundation supported the project of the Sight to Sky association. This project carried out Mobile Primary Eye Clinics in remote Himalayan regions for the purpose of primary eye care treatments, screening, treatment of refractive errors, dispense of reading glasses, and disseminating eye care education. The clinics also screened patients requiring further treatment and surgery such as cataracts and collected data for the government and partners to sponsor treatment. The project also included an Eye Health Worker Program aiming to train community leaders and health workers to screen, refract and educate their respective communities on preventative measures against eye diseases in the Himalayas.
