Context

Myanmar has one of the highest blindness prevalence rates in the world. But being one of the poorest countries in the world, its health sector suffers from a lack of financial support, in terms of both human resources and medical equipment.

Supported Project

In 2017 - 2018, L'OCCITANE Myanmar and the L'OCCITANE Foundation supported the Visakha Foundation's project, which aimed to diagnose and treat blindness in underdeveloped rural areas in Myanmar that lack financial support, eye care facilities and trained healthcare professionals.

Trained health personnel and volunteer doctors performed cataract surgery, dispensed prescription glasses, distributed eye medication and provided eye care knowledge to underprivileged communities in rural areas of the country. Correcting these people's visual impairment  (especially adults) enabled them to work, thus contributing to their family income and increasing their livelihood.
