Context

Uncorrected Refractive Errors is one of the two major causes of avoidable blindness as stated in the Vision 2020 initiative, of the World Health Organisation. In Malaysia, Sarawak has the second highest Visual Impairment in Malaysia, based on the National Eye Survey 2014 of the Malaysian Ministry of Health.

 

Supported project

In 2020-2021, L'OCCITANE Malaysia and the L'OCCITANE Foundation are renewing their support to the THONEH. This Project is an early detection Eye Screening program, to provide “Clear Vision” to school going children, and create “Bright Kids”, to ensure that they are not left behind academically, due to undetected refractive errors and will be able to achieve their dreams.

The children identified with refractive errors and who are unable to afford basic eye care aids, Spectacles will be provided, sponsored by L'OCCITANE, which can improve their quality of life.

Services for the above mentioned project the Spectacles supplied by The Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital, sponsored by L’OCCITANE, THONEH Foundation (the charitable arm of The Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital) will manage the Project, and eye screening and refraction will be performed by Sarawak Health Department, Ministry of Health.

Since 2017, L'OCCITANE Malaysia and the L'OCCITANE Foundation have supported the Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital and its various projects all in favor to improving access to good-quality eye-care in Malaysia.
