Context

The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (iapb.org) says that in 2020 in Mali there were approximately 2.2 million people with vision loss, of which 170,000 were blind with a proportion of 52% of women.

The country is currently going through an internal conflict that is creating large numbers of displaced persons.

 

Supported Project

In 2022-2023, L'OCCITANE Spain supports the project of the Eyes of the World Foundation to improve eye health of the population of the Mopti region, in Mali.

To achieve this objective, the accessibility, availability and quality of health care for the main eye pathologies in 7 districts of the Mopti region will be expanded, focusing on access to eye health for vulnerable groups such as women, displaced persons and children. The NGO will implement surgery campaigns and organize campaigns in schools to identify students with refractive errors and to organize "Information, Education and Communication” (IEC) activities.
