Context

The Hidalgo region of Mexico is severely affected by economic and social poverty. 80% of patients at the Mexican Highly Specialised Ophthalmology Center (CEMAO) are living on or below the poverty line. This lack of financial funds prevents the populations from accessing eye care, thus impacting their health and their development. All the more so on account of the fact that several areas have no medical services whatsoever.

Supported project

In 2018,L'OCCITANE Foundation and L'OCCITANE Mexico supported the CEMAO in order to provide eye care to the poor communities of the Hidalgo region. The project aimed to offer ocular screening as well as suitable care for those in need, thanks to a mobile medical centre that will travel closer to the inhabitants, from town to town.

The overall aim of the project was to promote good eye health by providing people with access to care close to home.
