A vision centre in Koudougou

Cadre rcap :

An optical centre for the regional hospital of Koudougou

Uncorrected refractive errors* are the world's leading cause of avoidable visual impairment with an estimated global prevalence of 670 million sufferers. In Burkina Faso, 15% of the population presnet uncorrected refractive errors. (Community Eye Health Journal, Vol 20, Issue 63, September 2007)

In this context, Vision Aid Overseas and A Better Life Foundation started at the beginning of 2013 a one-year project for the construction of an optical centre within the public hospital of Koudougou. The centre will be developped integrating the current ophthalmologic department team to better train them.

Subsidy 2014-2015: €69,520

* An eye with a refractive error is an ametropic eye and the image of an object located at infinity is not formed on the retina and is therefore seen unclear. The main refractive errors are myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia.
