Context

Pine forests are part of the “climax” ecosystems that allow vegetation and wildlife to proliferate in North America. These are composed with more than 600 plant and animal species, 29 of which are classified as endangered at the federal level.

The Whaelghinbran Forest is located in the Fundy Biosphere Reserve, which is recognized by the UNESCO, in Fundy National Park in the state of New Brunswick. The surrounding Acadian forest is one of the most ecologically diverse forest types in Canada and it is recognized by the World Wildlife Fund as "critically endangered".

Supported Project

L’OCCITANE Canada and the L’OCCITANE Foundation are supporting a reforestation project in New Brunswick to preserve wildlife. The objective of this project is to reforest these sites in order to increase the diversity of species but also to protect the banks of rivers, which will prevent flooding.

The restoration sites will be used for demonstration and educational purposes for groups in the forestry programs of the University of New Brunswick, Maritime College of Forest Technology, as well as area schools and professional forestry associations.
Once the program is completed, these Canadian forests will position themselves on a global scale as a player in ecological transition through their status as carbon sinks.
