Context

In 2007, Croatia was touched by more than 600 fires, as a result more than 100,000 hectares of forest and green vegetation were burned. In Croatia alone, forests annually withdraw over 2.5 million tons of carbon from the atmosphere, and produce about 5 million tons of oxygen. Biodiversity can be protected by applying a reforestation plan but also by educating the population.

Supported project

L’OCCITANE Croatia and the L’OCCITANE Foundation support this project of reforestation of burnt areas. This project is also supported by Croatian Forests LTD, Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) and Imago Agency. It is the largest voluntary resforestation program in the country. This project aims to revitalize areas damaged by fires through a reforestation program while carrying awareness messages around the importance of forests and the preservation of biodiversity.

The « Boranka » project have a simple and effective concept : educating the youngest through theoretical workshop on nature conservation but also through practical workshop by giving them the opportunity to plant trees in order to preserve 6 varieties. In the upcoming years the project will be implemented in every part of Croatia with specifics about nature preservation to each region.
