Context

Myanmar has one of the highest blindness prevalence rates in the world. But being one of the poorest countries in the world, its health sector suffers from a lack of financial support, in terms of both human resources and medical equipment.

Supported Project

In 2021-2022, L'OCCITANE Myanmar and the Foundation have renewed their support to the Visakha Foundation's project, which aims to diagnose and treat blindness in underdeveloped rural areas in Myanmar that lack financial support, eye care facilities and trained healthcare professionals.

Trained health personnel and volunteer doctors will perform cataract surgery, dispense prescription glasses, distribute eye medication and provide eye care knowledge to underprivileged communities in rural areas of the country. Correcting these people's visual impairment  (especially adults) will enable them to work, thus contributing to their family income and increasing their livelihood.

Partnership History

Project supported since 2016

L’OCCITANE Myanmar and the Foundation have begun supporting the Vishaka Foundation in 2016 in the villages of the rural areas that are particularly severely affected by floods and earthquakes.

In the years that followed, L'OCCITANE Myanmar and the Foundation have continued supporting the NGO by moving into new rural areas in Myanmar that are lacking in eye-related medical services.
